Organization: Alberta Baroque Ensemble
The Alberta Baroque Ensemble is a professional chamber orchestra whose repertoire is primarily the music of the 17th and 18th centuries and whose performance practices reflect the spirit and style of the period in which the music was composed.
Formed in 1980 by its Founder and Artistic Director Paul Schieman, the Alberta Baroque Ensemble consists of a core group of fourteen highly skilled musicians. As individuals, each member of The Alberta Baroque Ensemble brings accomplishments and experience through studies at prestigious schools such as McGill University, the University of Toronto and the University of Alberta and from performing with ensembles such as the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and the Pacific Baroque Orchestra.
The Alberta Baroque Ensemble is governed by a registered charitable society, The Alberta Baroque Music Society, which exists to promote and foster excellence in the Alberta Baroque Ensemble and the performance and appreciation of Baroque music.
