"Triple CD Release Party” has the Uptown Folk Club very busy preparing for the arrival of Canada's premier guitarist, Wendell Ferguson, and Canada’s smoothest songstress, Katherine Wheatley.
Wendell and Katherine have both just released new CD’s. Wendell has two CD’s called “Wendell’s Cranky Christmas”, and “Menage A Moi”, his first instrumental album. Katherine’s CD is entitled “Landed”. Both will be debuting their new material in Alberta on the Uptown stage.
Ferguson, who has accompanied dozens of Who's Whos in Country, Folk and Bluegrass music, has long been heralded as an incredible guitarist with an impeccable music sense, but he is less well known, though no-less talented, as a singer-songwriter and humorist. His guitar skills are sought after for tours and studio sessions, he has played with everyone from Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks to Gordon Lightfoot, Quartette, Tommy Hunter, Duane Steele, Lisa Brokop, Patty Loveless and Sylvia Tyson.
Prior to 2008, Ferguson had released three CDs: "I Pick, Therefore I Am", "Happy Songs Sell Records, Sad Songs Sell Beer" and “Wendell Ferguson Live – The $#!T Hits the Fans”. He has also backed up a variety of artists on more than 60 other CDs. Wendell Ferguson's humor is infectious, and first timers are blown away by this great big man who makes you laugh so hard you could cry and plays the guitar in ways that no one has heard before. Wendell is a seven-time winner of the Canadian Country Music Association Guitarist of the Year award.
Katherine Wheatley is an exceptional performer. Her songs evoke comparison to Joni Mitchell and Bonnie Raitt. According to the Toronto Star she "turns pebbles of everyday life into dreamy mountains of song." Katherine Wheatley too is an accomplished guitarist and is now a stalwart on the folk music circuit in Canada and is quickly building a solid fan base in Europe. Wheatley’s two previous CDs are: "Straight Line", which spent 17 straight weeks on Sam's Top Ten Independent Charts, and "Habits and Heros," which claimed critical reviews for its ability to evoke feelings that touch the listener's very soul. On stage, Katherine keeps her audience on the edge of their seats with her arresting voice and infectious story telling.
Wendell and Wheat will also be presenting a 2 hour Comedy Song Writing and Guitar Styles Workshop on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Norwood Legion.
