Feeling a little chilly? Need something to keep you all warm and toasty? The third installation of Bluebird North is back and here to showcase more of Canada’s inspiring songwriters; Chloe Albert, Kat Danser, Bob Jahrig, and Joe Nolan. Bluebird North, an intimate and interactive evening of song and story takes place on Saturday, February 27, at The Haven Social Club (15120A Stony Plain Road).
Bluebird North is based on Nashville's famed Bluebird Café, which opened in 1982 as a casual gourmet restaurant with some live music. It quickly became a music club first and a restaurant second. In 1985 Sunday writer's nights were added as a chance for new writers to audition and perform before a special guest writer.
The Songwriters’ Association of Canada is pleased to bring the third installment of Bluebird North Edmonton, hosted by local singer/songwriter Ann Vriend.
Performing on stage for round three will be:
Chloe Albert – Edmontonian Chloe Albert is well on her way to becoming acquainted with the rest of Canada one song at a time. Her debut album “Dedicated State” recently garnered the attention of the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Chloe took home the ‘Emerging Artist of the Year’ award this past November.
Kat Danser – Edmonton-based guitarist, songwriter and vocalist Kat Danser throws down funky, laidback rhythms and thought-provoking lyrics. Her 'swamp blues' style, steeped in early roots and blues traditions, is delivered by her deep, resonant vocals and backed by the soulful sound of her Weissenborn lap slide guitar. Currently in production of her third full-length album “Rails and Rivers”, she wrote the material for it while on a research and study trip where she immersed herself in the music of the Mississippi. Much like a long stretching railroad track, her music draws a direct line from the Canadian prairie to the Mississippi Delta.
Bob Jahrig – Bob has been a concert performer at folk venues across Alberta and teaches songwriting to youths as an instructor at Youthwrite, a summer camp run by the Writer’s Guild of Alberta and as a writer in residence at elementary schools.
Joe Nolan – Joe just writes songs and sings them. He is articulate, thoughtful, curious and not afraid to take a stand. He writes story songs, protest songs, love songs and songs that touch upon society’s shortcomings. Joe Nolan’s live performances are mesmerizing as he is so connected to his songs and his delivery is amazing. He is shy, he is charming, and his between song musings draw you into his world - which he thinks, is a pretty cool place to be.
Don’t miss this intimate and interactive evening of songs and stories, Saturday, February 27 (doors at 7:30pm, show at 8pm) at The Haven Social Club.
