Join the Sisters of Sheynville for fabulous folk entertainment, a dessert buffet, and a good cause May 16th at the Royal Alberta Museum as this top vocal group presents a lavish benefit, in support of Woman, Children & Healthcare, hosted by CHW Edmonton.
The Sisters of Sheynville, from Toronto, were named Vocal Group of the Year at the 2008 Canadian Folk Music Awards and were nominated for World Group of that year. This soulful group revitalizes Swing music from the golden age of the mid-20th century fused with contemporary jazz. Inspired by the Barry Sisters' Swing vocals of the 30's and 40's, this high-energy, all-female sextet features intricate three-part harmony supported by a crack ensemble of some of Toronto's leading jazz and klezmer instrumentalists.
Since the release of their critically-acclaimed debut CD Sheynville Express in 2007, the Sisters have emerged as one of the most exciting new ensembles on the World Music scene. Their 13-song album, produced by Beyond the Pale's Eric Stein, showcases their own arrangements of traditional pieces, a bouncy 1930s Czech love song, an original swing tune, classic blues, and even a female, vegan take on Johnny Mercer's standard I'm an Old Cow Hand.
The concert May 16 begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Royal Alberta Museum, 12845 – 102 Avenue, Edmonton, and includes a delectable dessert reception after the show. Tickets are $54 per person, plus applicable fees, available at Tix on the Square.
Please buy tickets early so that the caterers have enough dessert for all!
