The Edmonton Women’s Film Society is proud to present the 6th Annual Film Festival, Reel Femme, promoting women’s voices in film. This year Reel Femme will be braiding together the experiences and vision of women from around the world, across Canada and through out Edmonton in this one day festival- Saturday, April 10, 2010 - rooted in downtown Edmonton.
From Haiti, offering a rare glimpse of the country prior to the earthquake in 2010 is Poto Mitan: Haitian Women, Pillars of the Global Economy. Written by Edwidge Danticat, Directed and Produced by Renee Bergan, Mark Schuller, the film looks at the foundational and important role women have historically played in Haiti while providing a catalyst for a local discussion on the need for women to be an empowered part of the country’s rebuilding effort. After the screening experts, interested citizens and the general public will gather for a community conversation to discuss recent developments, the role of women in the rebuilding, and what we can do now for Haitians in Haiti and here in Edmonton. 2:00pm, Stanley A. Milner Library Theatre. Tickets are $5 for everyone.
The Canadian Short film package was curated specifically for an Edmonton audience.
