Walterdale Playhouse proudly presents the Edmonton premiere of the Pulitzer Prize winning play (and new motion picture), Rabbit Hole, by David Lindsay-Abaire. Directed by Kristen M. Finlay, Rabbit Hole offers an honest look at a family after the loss of 4 year old Danny. Rabbit Hole was nominated for several Tony Awards and won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Eight months after his death, Danny’s parents, Becca and Howie, are still trying to come to terms with their loss in separate ways. Thrown into the mix is Becca’s sister, Izzy, who announces an unplanned pregnancy, and Nat, Becca and Izzy’s mother, who suffered her own loss of a child when her son died from a drug overdose.
“Rabbit Hole seeks to explore the idea of what's the worst thing that can happen? For any parent, the loss of a child is certainly that. I connected strongly to that premise, having 2 young children myself and having friends who have suffered that great loss. I often wondered how they could survive and step forward after it happened. What drew me initially to the piece was the brilliant writing and the wonderful realness of the characters. What has kept me with it is that it doesn't get melodramatic or condescend to the audience. No one knows exactly what to do, either together or individually, but there is movement forward that gives hope.”
