Walterdale Playhouse proudly presents three new plays from local Edmonton playwrights. Included on the evening’s bill are Sherryl Melnyk’s Even the Walls Have Eyes, directed by Sarah Jackson; Mike Czuba’s Hope Is Dead, directed by J. Nelson Niwa, and a staged reading of Robert Zimmer's Poetry Unbound, directed by Vivien Bosley.
Even the Walls Have Eyes deals with Andrea, who confronts her past at the funeral of her abuser. Through the monologue of accusation and revelation, Andrea fights her demons and emerges a stronger person. She does not let the audience of her 'family' get off easy, leaving the audience with responsibility for their future choices.
Hope Is Dead involves two unlikely friends who meet one night, ‘Old Man’ is one of the invisible homeless and ‘Girl’ is a troubled teen. Their connection with each other allows each of them to be seen for who they really are. They realize that not only do they need each other, but that their own saviour comes in the most incongruent package, and that heroes are often far from perfect.
