On Sunday, February 5, 2012, at Robertson Wesley United Church (10209, 123 St.) at 3 p.m., the Alberta Baroque Ensemble, in association with the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies, will present its Central European Gems as its first concert of 2012.
Along with its regular line up of the finest in Edmonton music and culture, the Alberta Baroque Ensemble is also welcoming soloist Elizabeth Koch, principal flutist of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, for this performance.
Featured compositions to be performed at this concert include Austrian-Bohemian Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber’s finest work Battalia, Austria’s father of Renaissance polyphony and counterpoint Johan Fux’s Suite in D Minor, Czech violin-master Franz Benda’s Concerto for Flute in E Minor, and French born but Vienna resident until his death Georg Muffat’s Concerto Grosso in A Major.
Still riding high after its highly successful Music for a Festive Season concert that started off the holiday concert season, The Alberta Baroque Ensemble continues to prove why it remains a mainstay in Edmonton music and culture as one of Canada’s leading professional chamber orchestras that perform music from the 17th and 18th centuries.
