Bridget Ryan wraps herself up in a big red bow and goes back to her roots this Holiday season with a Big Ol’ Christmas Cabaret December 10 – 20 at the Catalyst Theatre (8529 Gateway Blvd). This evening of stories, show tunes and special guests runs in conjunction with Jason Carter’s vibrant new series of canvas and stone, Nanabozho: The Tail of Giving. Directed by Edmonton playwright Stewart Lemoine with Ryan Sigurdson on piano, Bridget Ryan’s Big Ol’ Christmas Cabaret is a new show every evening. Including everything from puppetry to hilarious audition stories from New York’s stages, Broadway show tunes and seasonal sing-alongs, Bridget also has a surprise, or four, hiding under her Santa hat. Bridget has been performing cabaret for the past 10 years and got her start in New York’s Don’t Tell Mama with Rant Control. As an actor, she has worked with a plethora of Edmonton theatre companies, as well as TheatreWorks in the U.S., directed several productions at MacEwan and was the Associate Director of Edmonton Opera’s 2005 production of Weil in Weimar. Her playwriting credits include Counting Americans, Myles: The HypoAllergenic Superhero, and The Winter’s Tale Project with Chris Wynters, a rock and roll musical which won four Sterlings Awards in 2004 including Best Musical. Stewart Lemoine has created more than sixty works during his career as a playwright, producer and director. Lemoine currently develops a season of original comedies for his company Teatro La Quindicina, and he has collaborated with several Edmonton companies, including Edmonton Opera and MacEwan’s Theatre Arts and Theatre Production programs. The winner of five Sterling Awards, Lemoine is the recipient of the 2004 New York International Fringe Festival’s Award for Overall Excellence in Playwriting and the 2008 Tommy Banks Performing Arts Award. Ryan Sigurdson is an Edmonton-based musician, actor, and vocal coach. A MacEwan graduate, Ryan has appeared in several musicals throughout Edmonton, and he was Musical Director for a number of St. Albert Children’s productions.
