Synopsis: A man and woman wind up sitting in the same compartment of a train heading from Paris to Frankfurt. The man is an internationally-renowned author, while the woman is a huge fan. She even has a copy of his latest novel in her bag, but is afraid to take it out and read it in his presence. It's an awkward situation expressed in monologues until a conversation between the two provides a dramatic twist in the encounter. L'homme du hasard previously played Edmonton in English at Shadow Theatre; L’UniThéâtre’s production will be mounted in its original French text, with English surtitles. L'homme du hasard, by Yasmina Reza, is directed by Guido Tondino and stars Isabelle Rousseau and Bernard Salva. Set, lighting and video design by Victoria Zimski, costume design by Robert Shannon, sound design by Wade Staples, production management by Eric Chamberland, and production coordination by Marian Brant. The show runs February 4-14 at La Cité francophone (8627-91 Street) as part of L'UniThéâtre's 17th season.
