History + MandateTIX on the Square (TIX) is a community box office that was initiated as a project by the Edmonton Arts Council (EAC) in 2000. The original purpose was to operate a RUSH ticket booth similar to the one in Toronto or New York but it soon became apparent that Edmonton did not have enough high priced shows to make this worthwhile. The idea was then put forward to develop a central box office for the numerous smaller professional and community groups in Edmonton. TIX now offers services to the Arts and Cultural Community including selling tickets and promoting concerts (or events) by sending Media Releases to a constantly updated media list. The TIX website was first developed in 2002. As well as ticket sales we post media releases, graphics and photos on the website for the different events. Additionally, the website contains a listing of various venues that are commonly used with additional information including wheelchair accessibility, capacity and website links. A listing of the various arts organizations in Edmonton, including generic and contact information in addition to website links, gives Edmontonians unparalleled arts connections. TIX on the Square's staff strive to maintain a strong knowledge of the arts events happening in Edmonton – if we don't have the answers, we take a phone number, find out and then call the client back. The success of TIX on the Square is attributed mainly to the excellent service we provide and the quality of the arts events that are offered in Edmonton. |
