TIX on the Square was created by the Edmonton Arts Council in 1999. Originally intended to operate as a rush ticket booth, it has developed into a vital hub connecting local artists and community groups with audiences. TIX supports the arts community with a variety of professional services including box office, media relations support, and social media promotion, all for a nominal fee.
In spring 2011, TIX extended its role to connect audiences with Edmonton's visual and craft artists and began operating a retail space, taking over the operations of The Edmonton City Store. The retail space features a wide range of unique, handcrafted products including pottery, jewelry, photography, fabric arts and more. TIX also showcases books from local authors, music by regional musicians, and historic prints from the City of Edmonton Archives.
Have yourself at Merry Little TIXmas at our Holiday Open House!

It’s nearly time for our Annual Holiday Open House!
The candy’s been eaten, the pumpkins have been put away, and we’ve seen those snowflakes fall from the sky - which means it’s time to start holiday shopping! TIX has always been your destination for unique made-in-Edmonton gifts, and we want to help you be the best gift giver this year, all while being able to boast that you shop and support local.
Never been to our Open House, and wondering what makes today different from any other shopping day? Well you’re in for a treat! We’re going to give you an inside look at what it’s like to be a YEG Maker!
Each Open House, we invite artists to work in store to create new pieces and give an inside look at their process, from concept to completion. This year, we’re excited to welcome STUFF and Orange Avocado Jewelry as our official 2017 Holiday Open House artists.
Erin Nagy of STUFF will be making adorable throw pillows adorned with hand drawn sea creatures and Canadian animals. She’ll be doing some sketching in store (maybe this is your chance to request your favourite animal?), stuffing them to ideal coziness, and sewing some bright and bold patterns onto the back. As our staff member Amber often says, there’s no way you can have too many throw pillows.
Orange Avocado’s Sandra Paetsch will be making her classic modern jewelry which draws inspiration from natural and organic elements. Every single piece is one of a kind, often mixing strong metals with heart and beach inspired charms. Your dream piece of jewelry might be created right before your eyes, so don’t risk missing it!
And of course, it can’t be a party without snacks! We’ve got new Edmonton favourite, The Nook Café, bringing in warm drinks, cookies, and festive treats. So, what else is this party missing? Perks! If you find something you love (which we really hope you do), we’ll gift wrap it for free! TIX staff loves to gift wrap, and we’ve gotten pretty good at it. We’ll ribbon it, stick a bow on it, and give you a gift tag so you can pretend that beautiful wrap job was all you (we don’t mind)!
This day is a celebration of all things local, which includes you. We wouldn’t be where we are without the support of the YEG community, and all of those who love to keep it local. So come on in and let us do everything we can to celebrate you, and make your gift giving season as easy as possible. There are a lot of stressors around this season, but it really helps if you have a new piece of jewelry to show off, and a soft new pillow to squeeze.
