"Pottery is taking mud from the ground and turning it into something beautiful. That metamorphosis is pretty fascinating. I love carving porcelain. The flow of the knife or carving tool as it slides through buttery curves of porcelain is meditative and mesmerizing. I also love the challenge of painting in a water-colour style on porcelain.   The themes I use are mostly from nature. The intricately carved shapes of my porcelain lanterns tell about long winters spent sharing stories around the fire. The brightly coloured painting work of my functional ware shows my love of the garden and the summer rituals of sunlight, growth, and harvest.

My influences are from my Ukrainian background where the Rozpes style of folk art finds its way onto my pots. Living in Korea surrounded by the work of porcelain masters, and the influence of my teacher Noboro Kubo, left their mark in my love of the Oriental style and use of celadon glazes on precision carving."
