Polish Culture Society present..Obsessions Octet Concert, October 6th - 4:00PM at Polish Hall (10960 104 St)

REVERENCE is a follow up to the group’s previous albums Obsession, Melodia and Steppin’ Up which have received rave reviews and awards, including a Western Canadian Music Award and Juno nomination for Obsession, and WCMA nominations for Melodia and Steppin’ Up. Steppin’ Up was also nominated for an Edmonton Music Award.

The group, led by Juno Nominated saxophonist and composer Kent Sangster, has travelled throughout the world performing their blend of classical, tango, and jazz repertoire. Most notably the group performed in New York City at Carnegie Hall in 2012 (which was recognized with a City of Edmonton Salute to Excellence Performance Award) followed by two European Tours in 2014 and 2017 resulting in many outstanding reviews. In 2016, Obsessions Octet represented Canada at the XEROX International Jazz Festival. Their performance was recorded and broadcast by American PBS Television reaching a large audience.

REVERENCE is a reflection of the many stories of life and music making both on the road and in recording sessions. With a solid reputation in the music community and a devoted fan-base, The Obsessions Octet is now one of the most popular musical ensembles in Edmonton and Western Canada. Roger Levesque from the Edmonton Journal has said, “REVERENCE expertly takes in a wide breadth of material that’s alternately sublime, suspenseful, pleasingly intricate, elegantly spare, and even danceable over eight tracks.”

The group consists of eight well-respected Edmonton musicians including: Kent Sangster (Saxophones), Joanna Ciapka-Sangster (Violin), Yue Deng (Violin), Leanne Maitland (Viola), Ronda Metszies (Cello), John Taylor (Bass), Chris Andrew (Piano), and Jamie Cooper (Drums).

Tickets are $30 for adults, and $20 for students and seniors, plus applicable fees.
