Edmonton Recital Society presents Season Recital 3 with Alex Strauss & Stéphane Lemelin on Sunday, November 24, 7:30 PM at Muttart Hall (10050 MacDonald Drive)
Axel Strauss has been equally acclaimed for his
virtuosity and musical sensitivity on concert stages
worldwide. The first German artist to win the international
Naumburg Violin Award, he made his New York debut in
1998. His chamber music partners have included Menahem
Pressler, Robert Mann, Andras Schiff and Itzhak Perlman. He
has made numerous recordings for the Naxos label, including
the complete works for violin and piano by Georges Enescu.
Axel Strauss serves as Professor of Violin at the Schulich
School of Music, McGill University in Montreal.
Stéphane Lemelin is an Edmonton audience favourite!
An active soloist and chamber musician, he has made more
than twenty-five recordings. He is director of the music
series, “Découvertes 1890-1939” on the Atma Classique label,
dedicated to the rediscovery of neglected early 20th century
French repertoire. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree
from Yale University, where his teachers were Boris Berman
and Claude Frank. Stéphane Lemelin is Professor of Piano
and Chair of the Department of Performance at the Schulich
School of Music, McGill University.
