Teatro La Quindicina: Vidalia by Stewart Lemoine
September 26 to October 12 2019 at the Varscona Theatre
Teatro revives this vivacious contemporary spin on the classic screwball form. Industrial espionage, high-end menswear, and a superior breed of onion all figure prominently… as do three identical briefcases. It’s a ricochet romp, with a cast led by Andrew MacDonald-Smith and Belinda Cornish.
Workshop West Playwrights Theatre: The Ballad of Peachtree Rose by Nicole Moeller
October 30 to November 10 2019 at the Backstage Theatre at the ATB Arts Barns
A young woman becomes ensnared into one of Canada’s most notorious crime organizations. But the lines between reality, fiction, and justice become tragically blurred.
Northern Light Theatre: Everybody Loves Robbie by Ellen Chorley
January 9 to 25 2020 at the Backstage Theatre at the ATB Arts Barns
Chloe loves Robbie. Everybody does. But Robbie loves Chloe back. They are the star triple-threat couple of their high school drama club and have dreams of their future success together in Musical Theatre (or straight plays, if Musical Theatre doesn’t work out). But- speaking of straight- suddenly Robbie wonders if he’s gay. And Chloe begins to wonder, too. And what does that mean for their future together?
Shadow Theatre: Happy Birthday Baby J by Nick Green
January 23rd to February 9 2019 at the Varscona Theatre
On a sunny summer weekend, Gary and Louise invite their closest friends and family to celebrate the second birthday of their child J, who they are raising without a gender. As the day unfolds grudges are revealed, and secrets come to a head. Nick Green's startling new comedy skewers the excesses of the politically correct and the possible future we are setting up for our children.
Studio Theatre: Shakespeare's Dog by Rick Chafe
February 7 to 15, 2020 at the Timms Centre for the Arts
Canadian Playwright Rick Chafe gives this canine view of Elizabethan England poignancy as well as humor in his stage adaptation of Leon Rooke’s comic novel of the same name.
Walterdale Theatre: Five@Fifty by Brad Fraser
April 1 to 11, 2020 at the Walterdale Theatre
Acclaimed playwright and Edmonton native Brad Fraser (Kill Me Now, Love and Human Remains) wrote Five@Fifty for all the “excellent middle-aged actresses who were having trouble finding parts.” When Olivia loses control at her fiftieth birthday party, her three best friends decide to intervene once and for all, much to the irritation of Olivia and her long-term partner Nora. But is she the only one battling a demon or does each of these women face an addiction of one kind or another? Five@Fifty is a raw and darkly comedic portrayal of turning fifty in contemporary society, and of the friendships we can’t live without.
