Fernanda Cunha is a Brazilian jazz singer from Rio de Janeiro. She has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious jazz festivals as well as coast-to-coast in Canada since 2005
The Yardbird Suite is very special to Fernanda because this was the first place in Canada she performed. After that she fell in love with Canadian audiences and has come to Canada once a year since that time.
For this visit to Edmonton, she will be accompanied by Toronto guitarist Reg Schwager and pianist Chris Andrew and bassist Rubim de Toledo, both from Edmonton. They will be featuring tunes from Cunha’s s two most recent CDs "Olhos de Mar" (2015) and "Jobim 90" (2017).
"Olhos de Mar" is an album that brings contemporary tunes from Brazilian songwriters like Daniel Gonzaga who have written a song especially for her, two songs by Reg Schwager with Fernanda's lyrics, Antonio Adolfo, among others.
The CD "Jobim 90" is a tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim. January 25, 2017, would be the legendary Jobim's 90th birthday. In celebration, Fernanda Cunha released an album entitled “Jobim 90”. Repertoire includes songs written (music and lyrics ) by Jobim including “Waters of March”, “Chovendo na Roseira”, “ Samba do Avião”, “Triste”, “Vivo Sonhando”, “Fotografia”, and others less known like “Angela”, “Ana Luiza”, “Passarim”, and “Two Kites” (English lyrics written by Jobim).
