Born in Portland Oregon, Gary Guthman began his career at the age of nine. He performed as a member of the nationally acclaimed "Seldom Six" Dixieland Band as well as being a member of jazz and rock and roll bands and the acclaimed Portland Youth Orchestra during his teens and college years.

Following college, he did short stints with the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra, the Stan Kenton Orchestra, the Don Ellis Orchestra and Louis Bellson.

In the early 1980's, Gary moved to Canada. Within the next few years, he became known as one of Canada's premier lead and commercial trumpeters, playing on over 100 televised performances as well as numerous radio shows, jingles, movie soundtracks and in concert.

1995 saw the inception of Gary Guthman's hit show "A Tribute To Harry James", followed by the creation of his "Trumpet Greats" in 1998, "Swingmatism!" in 2004, and the acclaimed "Master and Margarita" in 2007. From 1998 to 2001, he was also the musical director and starred in the North American musical theatre revue "Forever Swing".

He has worked with many famous musical celebrities over the years including Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdinck, Paul Anka, Lou Rawls, Ginger Rogers, Dionne Warwick, The Bee Gees, Doc Severinsen, Burt Bacharach, Tony Bennett, Roger Whitaker, Michel Legrand, Anne Murray, and Michael Buble.

Now residing in Warsaw, Guthman continues a very active career including symphonic pops concerts and jazz concerts.

Gary Guthman will mark his return to Edmonton by featuring music from his CD “Solar Eclipse”.
