River City Big Band presents Here Comes The '70's - Stevie Wonder and More! at 7:30PM on May 22nd, at The Capitol Theatre in Fort Edmonton Park (on 1920 Street in Fort Edmonton Park).

The musical period spanning the late 1960s and early 1970s was one of the most influential times for the merging of the musical styles of jazz and rock. Jazz brought with it ensembles that were made up of horns and a rhythm section consisting of piano, guitar, bass and drums. When you add the jazz genre's emphasis on improvisation, it becomes perfectly situated to embrace the influence of rock music with its similar rhythm section and extended solo opportunities for the musicians. “Jazz fusion” and "jazz rock" became the monikers by which these blended styles were known.

This musical marriage was the perfect fit and became an ideal outlet for the trained musicians who had feet in both musical camps. Thanks to the roots and grooves associated with bands like Blood, Sweat & Tears, Chicago, Tower of Power, Average White Band and Earth, Wind & Fire, and solo performers like Stevie Wonder, the style flourished and we are still feeling the impact 40 years after its beginnings. This concert will inspire the soul and make you tap your toes as we relive and pay tribute to the memorable sounds of the ‘70s.

We're excited to have you join us at the Capitol Theatre at Fort Edmonton Park on May 22nd. This is our last show of the season and we're really looking forward to seeing you there!

Doors at 7:00pm, show at 7:30pm. Tickets are $25.00, plus applicable fees.
